How to buy a ticket

Find out how you purchase a ticket to travel with bus, tram, boat and train in Trøndelag.

You can buy tickets throughout Trøndelag with the travel card, t:card. With AtB Mobillett you can buy tickets for bus and tram in Trøndelag, and for selected boat routes.

With SMS ticket, disposable travel card and ticket machines, you can buy a ticket in zone A (Trondheim, Klæbu, Melhus, Malvik).

Purchase your ticket before boarding. You will save money and the trip is more efficient.

Open ticketing in the Trondheim area

With a valid ticket you can board AtB's green buses and tram in the Trondheim area, without registering the ticket. 

If you are traveling from a metro station, you must purchase a ticket before boarding, regardless of whether you are traveling from there by metro or city bus.

  • Use the travel card t:card on bus, tram, boat and train in Trøndelag. 

    Order t:card

    Order t:card for free in the mail. You can also buy one for NOK 50 at AtB service center.

    Top up t:card

    Top up and pay in webshop for t:card, at AtB service center or on board region buses and boats. Note that a periodic ticket does not start before you validate the t:card on a card reader.

    Top up and pay in webshop for t:card, at AtB service center or on board in areas not covered by the webshop. As of today you can not top up the card on your mobile phone. This will be possible in a new version of the webshop in the first quarter of 2018.

    Travel

    In the Trondheim area you can board the green city buses and tram without validating, as long as you have a valid ticket. On reagion bus and night bus you have to validate upon boarding.

    With periodic ticket on t: card, you must validate your t:card when you have a brand new periodic ticket, after the old one expires.

    If you have a t:card with auto travel, you must validate your t:card on each trip so that a ticket is charged. 

    If not, you do not have a valid ticket.

  • Save time and money by purchasing a ticket in advance. If you pay cash on board you must pay extra.

    If you travel from a metro station, you cannot buy a ticket on board the green city buses. See alternative ways to pay cash in under ticket machines and retailers.

    On city buses outside the metro route, trams, regional routes with route numbers in the 500-series, routes 601, 602, 770 and school tranport you can pay with cash. On the 300 and 400-series, route 670 and boat you can also use a credit card.

  • Purchase your ticket in zone A and night bus by sending the right code, for example [VOKSEN], to 2027. The ticket is valid for 90 minutes from the moment of purchase. Note that the SMS-ticket only is valid on the phone used to purchase the ticket, and that a forwarded SMS-ticket is invalid.

    24-hour ticket is only available for adult via SMS.

    Natt1 is valid in Trondheim, Natt2 from Trondheim to Klæbu, Malvik, Melhus og Skaun, and Natt3 from Trondheim to Stjørdal and Orkdal.

    Purchase several tickets by writing a space and how many tickets you need after the code word, for example [BARN 3].

    Payment is automatic with AtB Mobillett konto or phone bill. The ticket is automatically paid with AtB Mobillett konto if your balance is sufficient. If you don't have one, or if the balance is insufficient, payment is automatically done with phone bill.

  • Are you travelling in Trondheim for a short while? Tickets bought at retailers are a good option for visitors and tourists.

    At our retailers  you can buy single ticket and 24-hour ticket for bus and tram in zone A. The ticket is valid from the moment of purchase.

    Choose between

    • Single ticket adult, child or senior (valid for 90 minutes).
    • 24-hour ticket adult, child or senior (valid for 24 hours).

    How to use your ticket

    • Buy your ticket from a retailer.
    • With a valid ticket from the retailer, you can board the bus without showing your ticket. Tickets from retailers are printed as a receipt from the cash register, and will therefore be somewhat different depending on where you have bought it.
    • Take care of the ticket until the journey is complete in case of ticket inspection.

    Disposable travel card

    You can buy disposable travel cards from AtB service center. The card works as the travel card t:card, and is pre-loaded with 24-hour ticket adult, child or senior (valid for 24 hours from first use).

    At selected Narvesen, 7-Eleven and Coop you can buy a ticket for bus and tram. See an overview of our outlets near metrostations or in the map below.

  • On ticket machines, you can buy a ticket for zone A and night bus. Pay with credit card or cash (ticket machines do not give change back).

    On the ticket machines you can buy:

    • Single ticket for passenger categories adult, child, senior, military, dog and bicycle.
    • 24 hour ticket.
    • Night bus ticket.

    The ticket is valid for 90 minutes from the moment of purchase.

  • Pay with AutoPASS for ferry on route 870 Brekstad - Valset and route 880 Flakk - Rørvik. 

    Register an account

    Register at autopassferje.no and get a discount.    

    Pay in advance

    50 % discount for private citizens, 40 % for businesses and 10 % if you have an AutoPASS-chip but no account.

    Drive on board

    On route 870 the crew registers your payment by scanning the chip in your front window with a hand held chip-reader. On route 880 you pay automatically prior to boarding. If you do not have a chip, you will be sent an invoice.
