Student Guide to public transport

Learn about student discounts on public transport, night bus services, and everything else you need to know as a student travelling in Trøndelag.

40% student discount

Get 40% off a 30-day travel pass. The pass also includes night buses and the night tram. The student discount is available up to and including the age of 34, provided you have a valid student ID.

Tip! We recommend buying your ticket in the AtB app, where you'll enjoy several additional benefits.

Student discounts for international students

If you're an international student, you can travel with a student ticket if you're entitled to a student discount.

To use a student ticket, you must carry:

  • A valid student ID from your educational institution.
  • A valid ISIC (International Student Identity Card).

Both documents must be presented during ticket inspections.

Night buses during orientation week

Extra night buses operate on weekdays during the orientation period, from August 11th to August 23rd. These services are scheduled to stop at several student housing areas, among other locations.

The extra night bus service has been introduced in collaboration with Study Trondheim, which is helping to fund the service.

Night bus

Night buses and the night tram run every weekend, on the nights before Saturday and Sunday. If you have a student or child season pass, travel on the night buses and night tram is included.

All you need is the AtB app!

With the AtB app, you can buy tickets and plan your journey in one place.

You'll also get access to a range of smart features that make travelling easier, including:

  • Track your bus live on the map
  • Create shortcuts for your favourite routes and regular journeys
  • Find available e-scooters and shared bikes from all providers

Free car rental and unlimited city bike access

With a Zone A season pass in the AtB app, you get two hours of free car rental with Hyre every month. It's perfect when you need to transport items that are too large to take on the bus.

You also get unlimited access to Trondheim City Bikes, with 750 bikes available across 66 stations. It's an easy way to complete the last part of your journey when the bus doesn't take you all the way to your destination.
