Summer price on ferries in Trøndelag

From 1 June to 31 August, the summer price applies to vehicles on all ferries in Trøndelag. Here is a simple overview of what the scheme means, which agreements apply, and how trips are registered.

What is the summer price?

The summer price is a separate price that applies to vehicles on the ferry during the summer period.

The summer price applies to the first four trips on the same ferry route during the summer period. A round trip counts as two trips.

The scheme covers both ferries that are free today and ferries that already have a fare. On ferries that already have a fare, a summer surcharge is added on top. On ferries that are free today, a fare is introduced during the summer period.

Trips can be registered from 1 May. That way, travellers who are going to make several trips on the same ferry route can have their trips registered before the summer price starts on 1 June.

How the scheme works

If you have a valid AutoPASS or FerryPay agreement linked to your vehicle, your trips can be registered from 1 May. That means trips you take from 1 May on the same ferry route count before the summer price starts on 1 June.

The four trips apply for the entire summer price period. You do not need to start over each month.

What you need

To bring your vehicle on the ferry and have your trips registered, the vehicle must be linked to a valid agreement.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a summer price being introduced?

Trøndelag County Council (Trøndelag fylkeskommune) has decided that there will be a summer price on the ferries in the summer of 2026.

The aim is for the scheme to mainly affect occasional travellers and tourists, while local users who travel often are largely shielded. It is also intended to ensure a more accessible service for residents.

At the same time, trips can be registered from 1 May. That way, travellers who are going to make several trips on the same ferry route can have their trips registered before the summer price starts on 1 June.

When does the summer price apply?

The summer price applies from 1 June to 31 August.

When do the trips start to count?

Trips can be registered from 1 May, as long as the vehicle is linked to a valid agreement.

Do the trips have to be on the same ferry route?

Yes. The four trips must be on the same ferry route.

Do I have to travel four times each month?

No. The four trips apply per ferry route for the entire summer price period.

Do I need an agreement?

Yes, if your trips are to be registered. Without a valid agreement, the trips do not count.

Is one trip one way, or do I have to travel a round trip for it to count as one trip?

One trip is a single one-way journey on one ferry route. The outbound trip counts as one trip, and the return trip counts as another. So a round trip uses two of your four trips.
